Don't use Mobiles while Driving

The recent gloomy accident in my colony has devastated me and left me with thoughts on the way we behave behind the wheels. Being distracted at the wheel of a car is about the most dangerous thing you can do in your daily life. It doesn’t take much speed to cause a serious injury to someone. Sometimes, if you don’t kill them, the life left to them is worse. If you caused something like that because you were texting or were on a call, could you forgive yourself? May be the lady who was driving the car is left liberated by the law of land in framework of an accident….But would she ever be able to pardon herself her whole life?? Would you be able to??

Almost everyone I know, myself included, uses mobile while driving. Not just when waiting at traffic light, but while on the move – reversing, parking, doing U-turns, going full throttle on the highway, in congested streets, through the intersections with no working traffic lights, and while merging with traffic. It’s bad enough with a phone that requires you to press buttons to type letters. It’s worse if you have a touch screen. In the one second between lowering your eyes and raising them back to the road, whole universe can be made and unmade.

All of us feel that sending a text or two while driving is no big deal. Nothing has ever gone wrong before, we think, I’m pretty good at this. I really doubt that I’m going to die because I’m sending a one word message or as I’m using a Bluetooth. We don’t realize that even if we are using a hands free device to place calls, it’s tremendously death-defying while driving, as we completely lose the mental picture of the dynamically changing immediate surroundings and our brain visualize the imagery of the discussions happening over the call. I myself have at times observed that I cannot recollect the visual data of the transit points I’ve crossed while driving if I am on a call.

I urge you all to watch this video and make everyone who has a driver’s license watch this: From one second to the Next(link at the bottom of post)! I wish someone from the Transport Authority reads this post and make this a compulsory video to be watched just before or after issuing a Permanent Driving License to every citizen and repeat every time a person is summoned to court for a traffic offense.

It’s the one thing to bet your own life on your texting or talking on mobile-while-driving skills. Are you willing to bet someone else’s??

Let’s take a resolution today not to use MOBILE PHONES in any form while driving. Let’s try to be a little primitive here and tell ourselves that the world never stopped even when mobile phones did not exist..…
