Open letter to Politicians in Gurgaon
Above article was published in Hindustan Times, Gurgaon Edition - 1st January 2014
Gurgaon is losing charm as the preferred destination for
setting up business. The erratic electricity supply to industries as well as
residential sectors, decreasing water table and unorganised transport facility
including awfully maintained roads are taking a toll on the city.
Owing
to unavailability of these three main resources, the business operation cost
has gone 10% higher than other business destinations such as Mumbai, Bangalore,
Chennai and Pune. The industries and business houses of the city have to incur
an exorbitant cost on account of self-production of the electricity - which is
around Rs. 16~20 per unit - besides safe transport facility for employees.
Driving through the Highway and few focal roads like Golf Course Road, MG Road
& Sohna Road during office hours is frightening due to utterly unmanaged
traffic control systems and the spoiled roads at most important intersections
further add to the distresses.
The corporate
house and IT-industries are the two main sectors which contribute immensely to
the economy of the city. If the poor condition of the city continues, these
sectors will pull out the business - and that will be a major blow to the
economy of the city.
I appeal to
the Government to address all these matters before it’s too late and
“Millennium City” slips further down in its international ranking for business
destination.
